Sheer Bliss in Sheer Tops

How to Feel Confident Wearing See-through Top

From “free the nipple” to “barely there”, sheer clothing has finally made it past the runway and onto the streets. Influenced by designers such as Marc Jacobs and Valentino, fully sheer bodysuits and see-through, floral dresses have even Jennifer Lawrence, Bella Hadid and Kendall Jenner embracing the statement. And thanks to "fast-fashion" curators like Forever 21, H&M, and Zara, these pieces are accessible to anyone courageous enough to give it a go.

Though I was hesitant to try, I mustered up the prowess to do so. After a few trials and (many) errors, I came up with four tips and tricks to rock this daring look.

Tip 1 - Find a shirt/blouse with a darker hue or pattern/patches: This proves you are actually wearing a shirt and not just your bra and jeans.

Tip 2 - Pair it with high-waisted bottoms: Whether it is jeans, shorts, or a skirt, aim for bottoms that sit higher up on the waist to lessen the exposure of your midriff. While this look is revealing, we want to create some mystery without bearing it all to the world.

Tip 3 - Rock a fun, playful bralette: If you're going to expose your underpants to the public you might as well make it fun and colorful. That said, it helps to pair the same color bra with the same color top because it looks more uniform. Although, if you're going to change it up, look for playful colors and/or unique patterns that complement the shirt. Urban Outfitters has some for a fair price that would really spice up the ensemble: rose braletteheart bralettecherry bralette

Tip 4 - Wear something over or underneath: While some may argue adding a piece of clothing over or underneath the sheer top defeats the purpose, it actually adds to it. I've seen bloggers create cool outfits by pairing a simple tube top over a sheer blouse and vice versa. Adding outerwear, like a chic blazer or silk duster, creates a third element and helps class up the ensemble.

However you decide to wear this look, the important thing to remember is style it whichever way makes you feel the most comfortable. If you feel awkward or self-conscious in what you're wearing, it'll translate to others. That said, if you're like me and want to experiment with this trend, try out my tips and let me know if this trend gets your stamp of approval.
